Each restaurant, bar, hotel/motel, and healthcare facility have different ice needs. To meet these needs, DEQOnline offers machines that have a variety of ice types.
With a unique rhomboid shape, these hard, clear ice cubes measure 3/8” x 1-1/8” x 7/8”. A half-dice ice machine utilizes a vertical evaporator for maximum efficiency. Half-dice cubes provide maximum cooling with a nearly 100% ice to water ratio. They are most commonly used in restaurants and bars.
Full-dice ice may also be simply called "dice ice." They are very similar to the half-dice cubes. They are hard, clear ice cubes with a rhomboid shape, but they measure 7/8” x 7/8” x 7/8”. Full-dice cubes provide maximum cooling with a nearly 100% ice to water ratio. They are most commonly used in restaurants and bars.
Also referred to as regular cubes, these cubes are also similar to the half-dice and full-dice cubes. They share the rhomboid shape and are clear hard cubes. They measure 1-1/8” x 1-1/8” x 7/8”. Regular-dice cubes offer maximum cooling with a nearly 100% ice to water ratio. They are most commonly used in restaurants and bars.
Nugget ice has a soft, chewable texture. While easy to chew, it is still hard enough to be dispensed without hand scooping. Average pieces measure from 3/8” to 1/2” in length and width. Nugget ice is most commonly found in Sonic Restaurants. With a 90% ice to water ratio, nugget ice can cool drinks quicker. Unfortunately, they do melt faster.
Similar to nugget ice, tubular nugget ice also has a soft, chewable texture. However, individual pieces have a cylindrical shape with a 5/8” diameter and an average 1” length. The long shape and the 90% ice quality make tubular nuggets ideal for dispensing applications.
Flake ice consists of small, soft pieces of ice with a 73% ice to water ratio. Flake ice is perfect for food and beverage presentation and preservation. It can be formed around an object without bruising and holds it in place without tipping or spilling. Flake ice can also be used for hand scooping to drinks. However, the low ice to water ratio causes the ice to melt at a faster pace.
Crushed ice is formed from full-dice or half-dice cubes crushed into small pieces using an ice machine or beverage dispenser equipped with an icepic ice crusher. Crushed ice provides a selection of crushed or cubed ice from a single ice maker/ice beverage dispenser combination. This offers maximum cooling with a nearly 100% ice to water ratio.
Gourmet cubes are hard, clear, individual cubes available in multiple shapes. These cubes offer maximum cooling with nearly 100% ice to water ratio. With a crystal-like appearance, these are the premium beverage companion. Bars use these cubes more since the slow melt will sustain flavor in a drink. A gourmet cube is also ideal for a drink on the rocks with a single cube.
