For this week, we interviewed one of our new hires. Alex is a hardworking employee, serving as a Project Manager in our Bid department.

What changes in the foodservice industry have you noticed since you were first hired?

I have only been in the food industry for 1 year. To me, I am still learning all of the equipment we are able to sell. I have noticed a lot of new products being made. The technology for the equipment is upgrading rapidly.

If there was one thing you could change about the foodservice industry, what would it be?

Of course I started in the COVID-19 era. Currently, I would have to say the lead times for the equipment. I know every warehouse is working endlessly to get the equipment made.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out in our sector of the industry?

Get to know your customers, reps, and install teams that will be helping with jobs. Your reps will give you knowledge about any piece of equipment. Your install team will have your equipment running properly for the customer. Establish a good relationship.

What advice would you give our customers?

Do not hesitate to ask questions about the equipment you are looking to purchase! We are here to get you the equipment you want. If you are looking at a new piece of equipment for your kitchen that you are unfamiliar with, ask for a Spec Sheet to look at your options. Ask us any questions you have.

What's your favorite food?

Fettucine Alfredo. Specifically from Olive Garden with breadsticks.

When ordering at a restaurant, do you stick with your favorites or try new menu items?

Gotta stick with favorites.

What activities, places, and restaurants would you recommend to anyone who hasn't been to West Virginia (where we are headquartered) before?

In West Virginia, hiking or kayaking. We have a lot of beautiful scenery. I would recommend Pies and Pints in Fayetteville. Very great place to eat!

Pepperoni Cheese Roll

What foods do you think represent the Appalachian culture?

A nice homemade Pepperoni Cheese Roll.

What do you think the future of the foodservice industry looks like?

It is very hard to imagine. With the growth of technology, equipment will only improve.

What about the future of Douglas Equipment?

Douglas Equipment is growing in the Food Service industry. We recently just bought a new building for warehouse use. We are keeping if full for our customers to help beat lead times....Douglas Equipment will continue to grow!

With there being so many opportunities in the job market right now, what keeps you loyal to Douglas Equipment?

Douglas Equipment has a positive and friendly work environment. With the growth of Douglas Equipment, we have so many options for individual growth.
